Charlotte, NC
Description:Crate & Barrel, a home and kitchen store, opened its doors in 1962 as a family business. The stores offer customers varieties of flatware, dinnerware, and drink ware as well as sofas, rugs, and curtains; anything to improve home décor. With over 145 stores nationwide Crate & Barrel dominates the home furnishing market with few competitors. CESI performed a Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation for design of the building foundations, retaining walls of the below-grade parking level and the parking/ showroom slab-on-grade. Both shallow spread footings and auger cast-in-place piles were designed for support of structural loads. During construction, Special Inspections (as required by the Mecklenburg County Building Department) and Construction Materials Testing services were provided by CESI personnel. Auger cast-in-place piles, structural steel, reinforcing for concrete members, bearing grade testing, deck welds and lap fasteners were a few of the inspections included in our services. Materials testing consisted of structural and slab concrete, and retaining wall backfill compaction. Through coordination with the Owner and Contractor, the store opened ahead of schedule and well within budget.
